Worried about your Acne, Pimple Breakouts, Acne Scars and Blemishes?? | Makeup Beauty Blog

Hello my lovely angels...

Today I have a very important blog post for you all. Much before I even started a blog or a Facebook Page, I used to get asked a lot of questions about acne, breakouts, pimples from a lot of both men and women. Today, through my page, I get asked the same all the time. The most number of questions I have answered is also pertaining to the same topic.. So I thought, why not I do a blog post on the same and hopefully, this will benefit a lot of you lovely ladies and men out there.

Honestly, I have oily/combination skin. I tackled with it for many, many years since puberty and this year I will be 30 years old and let me tell you, I still try to tackle it. It is difficult, yes... but honestly, let me tell you few things I have learned during the process.

*First, you NEED to be patient about your skincare. Patience darling... Patience... Yes that's right! :)

Through this blog post today I will be addressing each factors that you need to address for an acne-prone skin to take care of it in the best possible way. 1) Internal Factors 2) Hygiene 3) Food and Fluids 4) Exercise 5) Proper Skincare routine

Internal Factors

If you have dealt with acne for quite a while and have tried out various skincare products but nothing seems to keep a grip on the number of breakouts you have, it is very important to consider that there could be several internal reasons that might be causing you to breakout so very often. One of the major factor among all is Hormones. If you are at certain stages in your life such as puberty, pregnancy, menstrual cycle or even during menopause, you are prone to getting breakouts. If you have thyroid issues or even PCOS, you are most likely to get lots of acne as well. If you have recently had a surgery or have been taking treatment for something or has been prescribed certain medications, this can cause lots of breakouts as well. Certain steroids can also trigger acne. It is always advised to consult a good dermatologist in these cases.

Yes I am DEAD Serious! LOL!

If you are someone who do have severe acne and breakouts rule out these factors first:

* Are you during any of these three stages of your life? Puberty/ Pregnancy/ Menopause?

* Are you taking treatment or prescribed medication for something?

* Did you recently undergo any operation or surgery?

If you have answered Yes to any of the questions above, consult your doctor and ask for a solution on your acne conditions. Ensure that you do a blood test, hormonal and thyroid test and see everything is normal as well. This is important to rule out whether any internal factors are causing you to breakout.

Hygiene

Hygiene is another very important part of helping you taking care of your skin when you are prone to acne and breakouts. Note these points without fail... Yes you need to!! :)

* Change your towels often

* Change your bed sheet and pillow case regularly

* Avoid touching your face too much

* Don't pick on zits

* Never go to sleep with your makeup on

* Clean your makeup brushes at least once a week if you are using it only for yourself.

* Keep a separate towel for face and body

* Ensure that you keep your phone away from touching your face and clean the front part of your phone using a hand sanitizer or antibacterial wipes.

* Try and keep your hair away from your face as much as possible especially if you have oily hair.

* Wash your face with lukewarm water while using your cleanser and then splash with cold water couple of times before pat drying. * Wash your hands before applying makeup or skincare products on your face. * Do check for dandruff on your hair as dandruff can exacerbate your acne. Also, certain hair products can trigger acne so try and use natural products on your hair as well.

Food and Fluids

Try and eat as healthy as possible or try and balance out your food. It really shows on your skin, trust me!

I know, I know... it is not easy. Being a foodie myself and being someone who enjoys cooking and feeding, it is very difficult for me as well... and to say, I simply love love love CHEESE! :D

So, what do you do?? Try and balance your food. Try and cut down on your fried food intake.. and if you crave, have it once a week and balance the rest of your meals during the day. Include more salads in your diet and figure out a good dressing that can go really well with your salads.

Being an Indian, we love our carbs and what I try and implement is to add salads along with our diet. Instead of just upma, make mixed vegetable upma. Add vegetable filling to your dosa. Try adding shredded carrots and herbs to your idlis. Cut down on all the extra oil. Avoid deep fried food and opt for grills. Bring small small changes in your diet. Include a green smoothie along with your breakfast instead of tea or coffee. These minor changes would really really help you get all the nutrition and vitamins you need. Additionally, make sure you drink plenty of water. It is important to have at least 2-3 litres of water every day. Start your day drinking lukewarm water. This can really help to flush out toxins from your body. I would not say just by drinking water your acne would go, but it will bring more hydration to your skin and will make it look more radiant and glowing. I have recently started drinking 1 litre of warm water every day morning after waking up and honestly, I can see the difference it has made to my face in general. It is difficult initially, yes, but it does become a routine in your life. I was one of those people who hesitated to drink 2 glasses of water every day, never mind 2 litres!! Now I make sure to drink 2-3 litres every single day. I have downloaded this app on my mobile called Plant Nanny that really helps me to drink more water daily. As and when I drink water, I update on my app and my plant grows. If I do not drink enough water, my plant gets dehydrated and eventually it will die. So basically, the app motivates you to drink more water! Cool and makes sense right?! :)

Exercise

That's right.. you need to exercise... and I do not mean working out severely in the gym or going for jogging in the morning...

Source: Giphy.com

What I mean is a good walk for 30 mins to 1 hour daily for at least 4-5 times a week. What happens is, when you exercise you release endorphins which can help your skin replenish and make it look healthy. Exercising helps to improve blood circulation and brings more oxygen to your body and thereby helps to release toxins from within. When you release endorphins and toxins, it helps to push out oils and dirt through your pores as well and this can help your skin look healthy, glowing and youthful.

What I do these days is, I walk to the supermarket with the excuse of picking up milk or vegetables for next day. This way it becomes a daily habit. Wear comfortable sneakers, put on your favourite music and just walk.

Also remember:

* Never wear any makeup to the gym or while working out. Let your skin breathe and your pores open.

* Don't stress out too much as stress can trigger more acne and breakouts. Try yoga or meditation or occasional spa treatments to calm your nerves down.

PROPER SKINCARE ROUTINE

Finally, you need to have a proper and religious skincare routine and it is very crucial to follow the routine properly to cleanse your skin from deep within. You need to have a strict routine to balance our the oil secretion and to keep your skin and pores clean from oil and dirt to prevent it from breaking out. If your acne is triggered through an external factor, a strict CTM (Cleanse, Tone and Moisturise) routine done religiously will definitely help to clear out your skin.

If you need a good skincare routine for Oily/ Acne-prone skin, I have done another blog post for that here. Do check out the link below:

Skincare Routine for Oily - Acne Prone Skin

Points to remember always:

* Always use products that are suitable for your skin type.

* Remember each persons skin is different. What might work for others might not work for you and vice versa. So always test!

* When you buy a new skincare product, try and get a tester first and then buy the full-sized product after trying it out at home. Most high-end brands do this.

* Before applying a new product directly to your face, try it out elsewhere and see if you are allergic to it.

* Good skincare products are always worth spending over makeup.

* Sunscreen is not just essential, it is mandatory!

* Start skincare routine early.. it is never too late nor too early to take care of your skin.

* Just because you are oily does not mean you cannot use oil on your face. It is important to use the right amount and the right type of oil.

* If you have severe acne, stick to paraben-free, silicone-free, perfume-free skincare products.

* Steam your face every week to help deep cleanse your pores.

* Do not tug and pull your skin hard. Always be gentle.

* Even if you have a very good skin care routine, you can get the occasional zit here and there for sure depending on your hormonal changes and monthly menstruation cycle.

* Choose makeup wisely and use the one that suits your condition without clogging your pores. Mineral-based products are relatively good.

* Do not over wash your face. Stick to twice a day using your cleanser and if your skin gets too oily, wash without cleanser by splashing water and patting dry. Maximum three times a day, not more!

I hope this post has been helpful to you all my angels...
